Root Connections community garden is a thriving project with many different roles and interesting aspects to get involved in. We want all our volunteers to feel included and to enjoy how they give their time, so please let us know if there is a particular aspect of the project that you would be interested in helping with.

This may include:

  • Helping within the garden with an array of seasonal jobs that need doing.

  • Helping with harvests – whether this be vegetables, fruit or cut flowers.

  • Helping with deliveries – we deliver veg boxes & seasonal cut flowers within a 12mile radius of the farm

  • Wholesale deliveries to local restaurants and farm shops.

  • Helping with keeping our digital marketing, fundraising, website and admin up to date.

  • Running our pop-up farm shop on a Friday morning & helping with events & running workshops.

  • Making tea/coffee & all important cake!

Volunteering with Root Connections can take many forms and as much or as little time as you can commit. We always try to utilise people’s skills, but are very happy to show you the ropes if you are new to gardening.

We provide training and insurance for all our volunteer activities. We require all volunteers to undertake some basic training - our induction, plus safeguarding training and to read and complete our risk assessment & policies.

I love volunteering at Root Connections, it’s life affirming. Being outdoors with nature, seeing plants blossom and grow is very therapeutic.
— Carol
I believe that both residents and volunteers alike experience a feeling of calm and place by working there together.
